Maximum Muscle Isolation Isolation of a specific muscle(s)is often the intent when one is strength training- particularly when the routine is geared toward body building. It seems that one's natural tendency is to focus on moving the weight being lifted with little thought as to which muscle is doing the work. To better isolate the muscle, focus on the muscle contraction rather than on lifting the weight. For example, when doing a bicep curl, look at your bicep muscle and focus on the bicep contracting and pulling the forearm toward the upper arm while keeping the upper arm completely stationary. The dumbbell in your hand will simply move as a result of the muscle contraction. Better isolation means a harder worked muscle which will result in better muscle tone, strength, and size. When you begin this technique, lower your weights slightly and be ready for some sore muscles! |
